More: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/soc ... 6324250481MATILDAS captain Melissa Barbieri, is prepared to light up South Australia's Lady Reds.
The Australian team's No.1 keeper was shocked after Nathan Tinkler's Hunter Sports Group ordered the Newcastle Jets out of the game on Tuesday.
Capped 80 times for the Matildas, Barbieri was contracted to Jets last season.
"I am open to that sort of stuff," Barbieri said about the possibility of moving to Adelaide. "I am a Melbourne girl but I love to have other opportunities to play."

That's fine, but do we really need another Goalkeeper ? I dont think so.
Re: Barbieri open to Adelaide move...
If shes better than the keepers we have (no offence to the current keepers because you're great!), then yes, I'd say we do need another keeper.Caretaker Coach wrote:That's fine, but do we really need another Goalkeeper ? I dont think so.
You'd have to wonder why we haven't won a game if people want to turn down the No. 1 Matildas keeper... common sense people!
Barbieri coming to Adelaide is a good thing for the club!
Re: Barbieri open to Adelaide move...
Would be worth having her for her experience and media profile.
May even get more people to watch the games.

The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in football to make him do any work.

if she can persuade a couple of other players to come with her it could be a good idea - having watched her play last season, I think she has lost some of her sharpness and agility (imo )
If we dont have a good GK here, with all the training programmes we apparently have in place, we should be asking why not ?
Re: Barbieri open to Adelaide move...
Plenty of good GK here but we always use the same two.

IMO it would be a huge boost the team needs. Good publicity, could bring a couple other players here and it will probably lift the players around her to perform even better. FFSA and co need to do their best to get her here as it is something that would be great for the womens game in Adelaide

Dave has said if they don't live / move here then it won't work for AU. He needs the players to train together. He will bring in some internationals (NZ again most likely), but if Barbieri et al are willing to stay in Adelaide for the duration of the season then why not.
Players like Barbieri could easily find work through the FFA / FFSA whilst here.

I'm sure work would be offered to her and she would live here for the season, she is professional enough to do thatLucas Leiva wrote:Dave has said if they don't live / move here then it won't work for AU. I don't just want to have my cake and eat it, I want to go back for cheesy biscuits and tiramisu.

No not really.Angela Porcu wrote:Bitter much?M@rvin wrote:Plenty of good GK here but we always use the same two.
So are you're saying that there are no other GK's that could be used?
