Jamie Redknapp (ok not a fantastic player), Hansen (the least talented pundit IMHO), McManaman (not bad, but he can’t string a sentence together, woeful in commentary), Lawrenson, Souness and Nicol all rubbish.
Gary Linekar – I’m sure you’d now agree ;)

Re: DALGLISH IS NOT THE MESSIAH
We ned to remeber when SAF took over at United, he spoke only of catching LFC, not wining the league, but catching LFC. Who was in charge at that time... King Kenny.
The tables have now turned and it is KK and LFC trying to catch SAF and MUFC. SAF was given 6yrs before he acheived his goal.
While Kenny has spent money on players where he shouldn't have he did take over a squad where the best striker wanted to leave and there were left overs from someone elses poor choices. He has won 1 posibly two trophies in his first full season in charge while still trying to correct the mistakes of Roy Hodgson.
2012/13 will be the time to properly analyse LFC under KK. Can he find the next Stevie G? Can he either get the best out of Carroll or will he be able to bring in the striker to replace Torres properly? Can he find a suitable back up/partner for a fit again Lucas? Can he finally solve our right sided problem?
Personally i think he can and will. Will we win the league next year? most likely not.
Will we improve on this year? i think that's a certainty.
Keep knocking us, as history will show we have been at our very best when our back is against the wall. YNWA

I would be more worried about the abysmal purchasing - Rafa's legacy of buying crap lives on.

Hey, whoever would have thought it, a Pool fan with a bit of realism.
I just wonder how patient the Americans will be if he gets off to a poor start next season.

Considering he signed around 70 players in his time some of them would have been poor ( Robbie Kean springs to mind).
but
Garcia, Torres, Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina, Daniel Agger, aurelio ( injuries screwed him, not Benitez's fault), Arbeloa, Glen Johnson.
He did buy more ( Kuyt bellamy etc), but i think the ones above, were at a top 4 standard.
If liverpool didn't sell their best players ( which is the biggest reason they are where they are), they would still be a force in the EPL.
Benitez did buy alot of shit towards the end, but the owners didn't give him any money to buy decent players, if you remember he was sacked because his budget was 7 million pounds ( might have been 3 even).
Re: DALGLISH IS NOT THE MESSIAH
Or you could look at it another way. He signed around 70 players in his time so some of them surely would have been decent players? Out of 70 players signed there's only about 10 that were any good!Litmanen wrote:El Pibe D'Oro wrote:I would be more worried about the abysmal purchasing - Rafa's legacy of buying crap lives on.

^^
Yeah i shouldn't have added them , i couldn't be bothered subtracting them all and figured you guys would have worked that out
Still, the fact that they left was the downfall, not the purchases themselves in my eyes.

Anyway, there’s a good book called ‘Pay As you Play’. Highly recomended.
Sums up historical records of clubs and managers in the PL era.
The most common variable with success is wages not transfer spend.

Re: DALGLISH IS NOT THE MESSIAH
Fergie didn't win any leagues whilst Kenny was manager first time.
Fergie almost lost his job when Kenny was manager first time.
Kenny is struggling at present, all managers do. Wenger early this season has as well.
Will he get it right? Who knows.
To me the issue is the Spurs reject, Commoli and Kenny's stubbornness. But we have won a cup so not all bad.

Please, don't mention Wenger. Wenger had valid excuses, he lost two star players and was given no money to replace them and still managed to remain competitive.NickyTanner wrote:Fergie didn't win any leagues whilst Kenny was manager first time.

What's Kenny's excuse? Either King Kenny is a fraud or the Liverpool squad sucks.
I think your squad is average and Kenny belongs in an old folk's home.

Re: DALGLISH IS NOT THE MESSIAH
Let's not get sidetracked but Wenger has had money available to him and chose not to use it. Not to mention he has relied on ONE player to get him out the sh|ts and hasnt won a trophy since 2005 FA Cup.El Capitano wrote:Please, don't mention Wenger. As for the old folks home bit, you do realise your manager is 10 years older don't you.........
Re: DALGLISH IS NOT THE MESSIAH
These 3 have played 1 game together this season. Nuff said.NickyTanner wrote:Suarez, Lucas, Gerrard.
All missing major chunks of the season.
Add Agger who's loss coincides with this bad run and Reina and those are the 5 best players at the club.
Take 4 of the 5 best players for prolonged periods out of any side in the league and watch them slide.
First XI is solid, anywhere from 3rd-6th arguably, squad beyond that is average but still better than last season - just look at bench on team sheets year on year.
