Re: Petrov
Villa released the following statement:
“The Villa board received news today that our long-standing captain Stiliyan Petrov has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
“Stiliyan developed a fever following the Arsenal game last Saturday and subsequently underwent tests. Haematology experts confirmed the diagnosis today.
“We expect to learn more about Stiliyan’s situation in due course. During this time we ask that Stiliyan’s privacy is placed ahead of all inquiries. Stiliyan is cherished by many and he will get from Villa every ounce of love and support.”
Needless to say, an underrated professional and gentleman. Wishing him all the best in a speedy recovery. Hope he kicks its arse and then some. ‘mon the Stan!

Stiliyan Petrov to retire from football after leukaemia diagnosis, saying 'football is over, this is the end'
Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has reportedly decided to call time on his football career after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia, according to Bulgarian media.
Petrov attended today's home Premier League clash with Chelsea - the day after being diagnosed.
"Football is over, this is the end," the Villa midfielder has been quoted as saying in Bulgarian sports daily Tema Sport. "I am now beginning to fight for my life and I will fight."
Petrov, 32, who has been capped 105 times by Bulgaria, revealed he felt a strange headache during the first half of Villa's 3-0 defeat by Arsenal last Saturday and the team doctor had even suggested a half-time substitution.
"I lost my energy early in the second half and it was very unusual for me," Petrov said.
"But this is life, you see we drank a coffee in London a week ago and now we're talking about things like this.
"I'll fight, it's clear, and I also would like to thank everyone for the support from all over."
An avalanche of support has poured in from all parts of the world.
"Let's all pray and believe that Stiliyan Petrov, one of the best football players Bulgaria have ever produced, one of my best and closest friends, will win this battle," Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov said. "He deserves all your support. Believe."
Bulgaria national team doctor, Mihail Iliev, said Petrov would be examined in London today and treatment for the illness will start on Monday.
The Bulgarian television channel Diema has altered its programming and will broadcast Aston Villa's Premier League game against Chelsea on Saturday live in support of Petrov.
Villa fans are planning a 19th-minute standing ovation during the Chelsea match, in recognition of Petrov and his No 19 shirt, while many supporters have pledged to hold aloft banners and shirts saluting the Bulgarian.
