SHAMBOLIC State of Affairs

Post by SAD GAL »

Unfortunately this is symptomatic of the women’s comp. People (players) not taking the game seriously and treating clubs poorly.

As always, the majority demand so much, the clubs (coaches and volunteers, administrators) give so much but in return get poor level of loyalty by the MAJORITY.

Olympic has always worked hard to be the community club that gives everyone a go however, when I was involved the majority of players it attracted were players that wanted to play prems but didn’t want to train. These players did get a senior game because there weren’t enough players.

When the coaches wanted to set some ground rules (very basic fundamental ones like turn up to F$@#ing training) they were met with “blackmail” from those players ie don’t turn up on game day.

Unfortunately this happens in the majority of clubs. when the coaches (who usually have jobs, etc) want players to attend all training sessions, they are faced with the reality that the player in question, and a few of their equally committed buddies, will not turn up to games or threaten to leave….guess what? They don’t have to turn up to training.

Girls/women the situation with the game today is all your fault. Its your game. You get what you put into it. Unfortunately the majority don’t care. Unfortunately the majority playing prems would not be there.

Wind back the prems league and make it something for players/clubs to have to earn to get a spot. The bandaid measures by including “also rans” in the league will NOT deliver what the powers to be hope the addition of teams will.

Basically soccer is not anywhere near where women’s basketball or netball. The time for “allowing it to mature and develop” has passed. The league is in a mess and I for one saw it coming years ago.

To finish up….PAY YOUR MONEY TO THE CLUB BLUDGERS. Others have paid their dues. why don’t you? Until they pay, Olympic should say “We won’t clear you”. I for one wouldn’t want a bludger to come to my club.

I think this is a problem every where, especially as the players get older. Last week our club (understandably so, players have had many reminders and payment options) stopped player playing due to lack of payment. One of our teams had the added loss of a player because he couldn't be bothered turning up to a training session (no training, no reason, no game).

Most of the time these measures are a small inconvenience to the guilty. It's the rest of the team that feels the full affect, when they go out onto the playing field.
