Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
0 goals scored :S Vidmar is a joke and should never be allowed to the national set-up again. We all know the players in the squad are good enough to score goals
Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
nothing to do with Vidmar
every youth team in the past 5 years or so have been abject failures. the fact of the matter is the players getting selected arent good enough.
there are some good youth players around but these players are going straight from the state league to the youth leagues of europe bypassing the AIS system and A-league completely
eg Petros Skapetis, Jake Adelson just in the last couple of days

Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
there are kids at celtic and the few that just moved overseas who i dont see in youth teams
i think player selection is flawed, i mean dortmund signed amini and yet he wasn't first choice for vidmar, please

Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
I agree that it clearly isn't our best side but surely this isn't the first squad to have those issues. Viddie IMO didn' even play his best 11 leave Bulut on the bench? Why play that way when we have to win at any cost? And the shit 'oh its not held on FIFA match days' crap doesn't wash with me. Like we're the only country effected but it!DOC wrote:there are kids at celtic and the few that just moved overseas who i dont see in youth teams

Personally watching the game it did remind me of AU under Viddie very stiffled and no creativity. I don't know what he has them training but it certainly isn't dead balls or crossing. I had to

Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
its not up to Vidmar to teach them the basics of the game at this level
Olyroos are just a reflection of the state of the national system

Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
no but vidmar is supposed to pick the best squad then best 11 and mold it into a functioning unitdfkjs wrote:its not up to Vidmar to teach them the basics of the game at this level

he has not done this and should be sacked, olympics would have been his brief, he failed, TAXI!!

Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
australian youth teams have failed to perform to a satisfactory level at every level for the past 5 years. the problem is the quality of players.DOC wrote:no but vidmar is supposed to pick the best squad then best 11 and mold it into a functioning unitdfkjs wrote:its not up to Vidmar to teach them the basics of the game at this level

too many of them think because they play in the A-league they're going to be the next Wayne Rooney when the reality is they spend more time playing consoles, watching the EPL and being confused by dutch mango suckers talking about formations than actually practicing the skills of the game.
this is the fundamental difference between the current generation and the previous one.
Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
Nick Green, Australia's Olympic chef de mission expressed deep disappointment at the Olyroos and Matildas missing out on the London party. "Not having large teams like men's & women's football squads takes a large chunk of vibrancy out of the village...it's bad they won't be there to share with the team spirit of the Olympic Games".
As I've said earlier, it's also sad that the soccer-football community here don't seem too cut up about us missing out...

Your right Con. No one seems to be bothered. Could it be that if they were to show concern may be they will be exposing themselves? After all it is them you have managed this result.

Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
End of the day the buck stops with the coaches. I don't know too much about the womens side of things but Australia is one of the top Asian sides. For us to not be at the Olympics is a failure and Vidmar, whatever the circumstances needs to go.
We need to stop accepting failure.

Yes, the coach has a lot to answer for. Trouble is, if we had a top flight Euro coach, the playing resources are still below par. It is systematic. In any organisation it comes from the very top.BlackBrian_7 wrote:End of the day the buck stops with the coaches. Re: Olyroos bottom of the qualifying group
0-0 last night (15/3/12) in the deadest of dead rubbers v. Iraq. No goals in SIX qualifying games is not a good look to the mainstream media.
Like I said earlier, surely the coach could have been given open choice for all the midweek home games at least, instead of being constrained by the 3-per-club limitation. These young guys could easily have bounced back from all the mid-week Olyroo games to still shape up well for their A-League Club the following weekend.
Great opportunity lost to raise the sport's profile @ the London party.

3 players per match is the least of the issues if Val's article is correct.Con wrote:0-0 last night (15/3/12) in the deadest of dead rubbers v. Iraq. No goals in SIX qualifying games is not a good look to the mainstream media.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/soc ... 6279961926Vidmar has found out that underage teams are a political animal for the FFA's coffers.
It's where the FFA can justify earning federal government funding so a player named outside the "pathway" (AIS, institute programs) is not a good look for the entire chain so it rarely happens.
Priority is always given to those inside the system while worthy players outside the pathway do it tough.
Australian players abroad like SA-born Bradden Inman (Newcastle United), Christian Esposito (contracted to Italy's Serie A Novara), Heart's Ryan McGowan and Celtic's youth team skipper Jackson Irvine were never part of the squad. Surely they do not lack ability.
Ultimately, Berger is responsible for all the underage national teams.
I think the FFA see the Olyroos as more about qualifying for funding then tournaments.
