Dinamo Zagreb Academy Coaches in Adelaide

Post by Željko Jurin »

Adelaide Croatia RAIDERS FC will be hosting 3 Youth Academy coaches from this years Champions League participant Dinamo Zagreb next week

From Sun 19 - Sat 25 Feb, the 3 European coaches will be taking 3 different age groups through their paces, every day from 6.30-8pm

The clinics are full, but if any coaches or parents would like to come down and watch, please feel free, every night at the Croatian Sports Centre, Sports Park, Gepps Cross

Kitchen and bar will be open every night
Dinamo Youth Academy recently hosted delegates from the most powerful club organization in Europe, the ECA - European Club Association. The ECA came to Zagreb to include the academy to be a part of Europes elite, which is the reflection of all the hard work the Dinamo Youth Academy has accomplished over the years: Dinamo Youth Academy has been selected, along with the youth academies of Barcelona, Arsenal, Ajax, Sporting Lisbon (which brought up C. Ronaldo) and Inter Milan to participate in the European football schools valorization program. Thus they find themselves in the most prestigious company possible!

A detailed presentation of everyday operations of the youth academy was presented by academy director Romeo Jozak and his assistants. After the presentation all parties were impressed by the structure and organization of Dinamo’s efforts. Specifically they referenced the academies quality, organization, and leadership. Two showcase training sessions followed that were held by U19 coach Dinko Jelicic and the U-8 coach Miro Davidovic.

Having visited Inter Milan football school just before coming to Dinamo, the ECA delegation was very impressed with the quality of work, the expertise of our coaches and the modern methods applied - and of course the whole youth academy - are on the same level as Inter Milan, despite Dinamo's Youth Academy budget being considerably much less.

This great recognition also represents a continuing motivation for Dinamo Youth Academy to continue the great work and to keep on improving in every aspect, which have already been brought to the highest European level by the director of Dinamo Youth Academy Romeo Jozak.

After the recent recognition Jozak commented. "Of course it is a great honor and privilege to be in such valued company of European football giants. We have clearly sparked the interest of Europe, which comes as no surprise considering the amount of top level players we have been able to produce in the past few years, and currently have produced two of the Europe's biggest talents in their age groups - Mateo Kovacic (sought by Arsenal) and Alen Halilovic (sought by Real Madrid) are part of our academy. Apart from operating on the highest level of quality and giving our best each and every day, in the last five years Dinamo has produced players that have combined transfer fees of over 80 million dollars. Players like Luka Modric, Eduardo Da Silva, Vedran Corluka, Niko Kranjcar, Dejan Lovren etc. It goes without saying that we are very proud to be where we are now, right alongside the best."

Speaking to the guys last night, one of them coaches in the Dinamo Football School, ages 9-11, and holds a UEFA A licence (more qualified then Kossie)

And that is the difference in Europe, the junior coaches are very highly qualified ...

Their under 7/8s train 4x a week, plus game

I asked what happens in winter, snowing, do they have a break or go indoors ?
Answer: the snow gets cleaned off their artificial pitches, and they all keep training, in -5c temp, ALL age groups, 4+ times a week
(it made me laugh, because how many times we coaches in Aust have been called by parents to ask if training is still on because 'its raining'.......)

Are you comparing apples with apples here, we are talking about an elite Club here...not their local Super League equivalent.

Fantastic initiative by the club - went down for a peek last night, was a real eye opener watching how these guys operate. Great experience for the kids involved. The organisers should be commended. 8)

ZJ, do they have any stats on the percentage of 7/8 year olds who end up "making it" anywhere, and those who end up giving up the sport by 15, out of school by 16 and spending their days in cafe bars smoking and drinking while telling anyone who will listen about how good they are/were and that the clubs coaches have NFI and are the reason they didn't make it?

In my eyes, a brilliant week with 60 kids attending split into 3 age groups

The 3 coaches were very down to earth, but demanded discipline and 100% effort every session from all the kids .......... and the kids gave them everything they had, night after night, even with aching legs, they came back every night with a smile on their face and maximum effort ...... a huge WELL DONE to them all, and the Dinamo coaches.
Some kids even asked if they could do it all again this week !!

4 players have been 'identified', with the coaches returning back to Zagreb after their week in Melb, to discuss with the Dinamo TD the type of players they have seen in Aust, the positions they play, and if there any deficiencies in those age groups currently, to see if they will be invited to Zagreb for a 2 week trial

A well done to all involved, but most of all, to all the kids and parents for giving it their maximum dedication for the entire week ....... back to reality of 2 nights a week training, early nights, and catching up on homework I'm sure ..... :D

Well done to all involved in organising the event. Great initiative, and it's the only way forward for our young players at the moment; parents and players get to see what footballing nations required from junior footballs.

Hope we get to see some more great initiatives like this in the not too distant future. Once again - well done Raiders, Dinamo Zagreb Academy, and volunteers.

Does anyone know which players have been identified at the "Dinamo Zagreb" academy? Also what will be the next step and will there be academy fees to be paid if they do make it?

I don't name minors on the Internet, but 3 were from Raiders and 1 was from Metrostars

As I said, they have been identified, if they get the final invitation to go over and they accept it, they need to pay for their airfare, but all accommodation and meals are paid for for the 2 weeks they are over there
