I wouldn't get any, there is too many already ....lefty wrote:So where would they come from western & eastern suburbs thought there would be enough in those areas already too, wont be south they are struggling as it is, perhaps the country like Pt PirieŽeljko Jurin wrote:No offence to those clubs, but a waste of time really to ask them as there are already alot of Feb clubs in those areas .......bigpond wrote: Clubs like Downs, Mod Vista, Gardens and Fulham have the facilities if they wanted to go over.
Go & do some home work ZJ & you will find that the north is the growth area in terms of demographics & FFSA know it. Perhaps your frightened of competition now that your club is in the north.
Why would I be frightened, isn't E&D the biggest junior comp in ADL, and we are very close by

I appreciate that is how things work, however everyone is jumping up and down about wanting to just be social and 'amateur' clubs yet they boast about shelling out tens of thousands of dollars in player payments.lisbon lion wrote:obviously you have no idea how things workBlackBrian_7 wrote:If they are happy being amateur why then do they feel it necessary to pay players?Trimboli wrote:Sounds like Banya and ORB present some pretty sound arguments - hard to argue against. Amateur sides are happy being amateur sides and don't want to go to Feds rather boring party answer have better fun enjoying their own. Justbecause people get invited does not place them under any obligation and nor should it.
Look for the cost of being in the feds I don't see the value either.
Just seems illogical and hypocritical.
Re: CLUBS GETTING CALLS TO JOIN STATE LEAGUE IN 2013
I don't recall any clubs bragging about paying players, most of that noise comes from the likes of yourself and people from opposition clubs.BlackBrian_7 wrote:

The only "bragging" per se, is about spectators, club stability etc...

Sorry BlackBrian_7 but you obviously have No Understanding about it. To say Clubs in the SAASL just want to be social obviously you havent been to a Div.1 SUNDAY game lately! Yes were all Proud & very happy to play in the SAASL PREMIER LEAGUE but it so far from a social kick around. It is for sheep stations for us Div.1 Clubs as I'm sure a Div.2 or 3 Title is to the Clubs that win them!BlackBrian_7 wrote:

And No we aren't bragging & bringing up about paying Tens of Thousands of Dollars You Are!!!

No, but playing Gawler and Cove (no offence to these teams) week in week out is hardly likely to improve things at Seaford is it! Sink or swim. We are trying to improve football in SA yet there is this mentality that less teams in smaller leagues is more comfortable and somehow "better" - yes "better" for the weaker teams, so they dont want to spoil it!BlackBrian_7 wrote:Bomber, the big problem with the 2 leagues is that there really is a massive drop off from top half of the second div to the bottom.Bomber wrote:Well said. I dont know of too many amateur sides unhappy with their status at the moment. If it aint broke, why try fix it? Happy to be corrected but at the moment the Downs and Gardens of the world are happy with the competition they are in, they are happy with their junior set-ups and given the costs and the standard they initially will face in the Feds, wish to stay put.
On the other hand, clubs like yours, may harbour further ambition and wish to move to the Feds. Thats great but be warned for every Comets and Metro, there is an NAB and Toros.
The way it is now keeps the standard more even amongst the teams, no-one really wants to see Seaford go through another 57 game or so winless streak do they?

Re: CLUBS GETTING CALLS TO JOIN STATE LEAGUE IN 2013
Ok I retract my point about bragging as the clubs involved generally don't do that. However it is a widely held belief that some clubs in particular have rather heavy player payment outgoings.
A lot of people on here talk about player xx being at their club because of the social atmosphere and don't enjoy the seriousness of fed football. If you are a winner don't you want to pit yourself against the best?

In an ideal world there would be promotion relegation to amateur leagues from the bottom semi-pro division, however due to the mismanagement of the governing body here this won't happen in the foreseeable future.Bomber wrote:No, but playing Gawler and Cove (no offence to these teams) week in week out is hardly likely to improve things at Seaford is it! The serious clubs do play in competitive divisions (super & premier league) with the development/regional type clubs playing in the state league. I don't think there is any value in a team like Croydon playing teams like Seaford, Cove, Gawler, Northern Demons on a regular basis as it will bring your standard down - yet it is important for these clubs to exist as they are in huge areas of potential growth and there is a need for them to exist.

.....and whilst the status quo remains, so will the gap. Big picture, my friend, big picture. It will take a few years, but it will even out over time. At the moment, consider the interim period - if you are going to use Croydon as an example (not sure why as we are in the Super league, not Premier League) and we had to play a weaker side, it gives our coach an opportunity to be more flexible in who he plays in that fixture (ie maybe a couple of 15 or 16 year olds could get more games). In a longer season, more flexibility can be looked at. In a short 18 game season, even a minor injury can result in a player missing a third of the season. it benefits very few.

I do!!! Have you ever spoken to a Downs or Gardens player and asked them why they play there? Most are there because they played Juniors or have family or close friends there. Got naff all to do with $$$. I played 7 years juniors for the Downs, 3 For Salisbury & then 4 years @ SASI. I then played for both Playford & Modbury Seniors (and won a Federation Cup with Playford) and then went to the Downs as a 19yr Old... Why, playing juniors for them helped but because the culture @ Fed Level is non existent, people are plastic and they only like you for what you can do, not who you are. i was so disenchanted by the system that i was ready to give up. Ask yourself why are the two Lindsay boys @ The Downs this yr??? As if they wouldn't walk into a Super League team. Now @ The Downs, where I wouldn't rather spend my weekends playing/supporting anywhere else... My family are welcomed, we are all friends, and now my children are growing up in a fantastic, supportive, family orientated environment. Gay Pala & Bwack Bwian you have no idea, you stick to sipping latte's on the Parade & ill slam back a Pale Ale @ Argy...Ga Pala wrote:Black Brian Didn't you know that players want to play at Clubs like Downs And Gardens for the fantastic environment

sounds like its worked out for you and good luck to you. May be you had a bad experience yourself but a bit rough to say people are plastic in fed clubs. Club loyalty is a part of the reason players return to there roots your fooling yourself if you dont think money has a big part to play as well. Those players would not be there if money wasnt part of the deal and which super leage club first team would your players walk into you think?

it happens at every club withna bit of cash
money talhks and bullsh*t walks.
i have no problem with clubs offering $$$ to players, good on them - to the players that is!
as for environments in the clubs mentioned above, i thoroughly enjoyed playing at Gardens, downs, vale, ingle farms ec. some of the characters and one liners are awesomely funny.
not to mention the supporters and the volunteers those clubs get - kudos to them!
if they can generate fantastoic support at games which leads to bar and food taking, so be it.
they can afford to play players a bit of coin. it adds to a better game being played.
can u imagine all the teams and players if their was no money given to players???
go watch over 35's, the quality is still there but the skill level is not...

I think this comment goes hand in hand with some of the opinion on this post. Just because you've not played at Downs, Gardens, etc. doesn't mean you've not played at a great club with a great cultural or community environment.Rodent wrote:BANYA wrote:I do!!! I played for a club for 17 years from the age of 8 in the Feds, and let me tell you it was a great environment as a kid / teen - playing and watching the Seniors. Families and spectators that I used to watch Seniors with then watched me as I climbed the ranks. As I got older and my ability prevented me from going further, I started to play Amateurs. Whilst not having any near as many people at the club I've been involved in, there is still a real sense of community and I've played with as much passion for my current amateur club Vipers FC of 5 years as I did for my fed club of 17 years.
We've been around for 5 years and we have great derby matches against the likes of Comets and Salisbury Villa and I love that, but it's no less important or passionate because we've not got the same history or facilities or amount of former feds earning "no more than $99". To me and my club and our opposition, Vipers vs. Comets is just as big as Gardens vs. Downs.
So, in other words - I totally understand what Banya says with wanting to be involved at a club with a community, but I also appreciate what Black Brian says in the perception of other clubs.
You perceive some clubs as lacking community (which may or may not be the case), whereas others perceive your club of paying blokes who can't be bothered training 3 times a week in Feds (which may or may not be the case).
Re: CLUBS GETTING CALLS TO JOIN STATE LEAGUE IN 2013
The reality of it all is they need us but we don't need them. People like to talk about mercenaries etc playing in amateurs but all the fed clubs were willing to pay them the big dollars in they hey day. Im sure that metro splashed the cash to get where they are today but is their model more sustainable then that of the big amateur clubs? I don't think so personally. They offer free entry and still get stuff all through the gates, what happens when the few people who put big money into the club loose interest? Raiders are an example of a team who played big dollars to get players such as morrison, cerrachio, cambell, trimboli etc. These players have now come into the amateur system and we are stronger for it. Raiders also run a more sustainable model now and look where they now sit in the league. Clubs pay what they can afford and if you have it then do it. Over the years edjsa have produced plenty of players for fed clubs and amateur clubs have provided a good outlet for players who might not be able to make that next step at fed level or just want a lesser commitment to training. Having the chance to play alongside players such as cambell, grenache, jones, ennis etc has been a great experience as well as playing against players like karepitis, day, elbows morrison , ivanovic, saraceno, stam - the list could go on. I can't recall any top amateur clubs looking to make a break away league unlike the fed clubs recently. Personally I think they should make a break away league cos you are in a league run by a bunch of idiots. If your not happy with the way things are blame the idiots who changed reserves to u23's cos that really screwed you all over and get rid of the current tosser in charge as he has no idea on how best to approach the subject of unifying football in this state, after all baseball has gone from strength to strength since his departure

uhmmm well funny you should mention Lindsay boys; the fact, they are related to the coach would be the real reason. The fact, the pressure mounted on a lindsay to leave a winning club would be the real reason ? The fact the coach has made a big who-ha about winning this year, you talk so much BS.
The main issue as Bomber puts it, is the big picture whether we play amatuer or fed we all play the same game and should be working together not against each other.
i do agree with you "Why, playing juniors for them helped but because the culture @ Fed Level is non existent, people are plastic and they only like you for what you can do, not who you are"

Re: CLUBS GETTING CALLS TO JOIN STATE LEAGUE IN 2013
Not sure if this has been said before but if the FFSA And the SAAFL made up they cold look at a promotion relegation via state league and Saturday Sunday div 1? Bitlike the Conference league and League two.
As long as the fees weren't high and you could get teams and officials to agree it could colve the $$ to go up but also help combine the two associations.
Just a thought

this would require the two factions to be on speaking terms
Re: CLUBS GETTING CALLS TO JOIN STATE LEAGUE IN 2013
why why why would any one bother entering into this discussion with the feds,
they are so jealous of what we have in the amateur league, that is why this topic was put to newspaper reporters and that is why they rang around to certain clubs.
A few good points have been made First and foremost is the EDJSA comp abosolutely is the best run junior comp in the state, once upon a time we had a state junior carnival now all clubs affliated with the FFSA have been banned from participating in any competions with E&D clubs. I have requested a trial game with a local Fed club only to be told they are not permitted to play E&D clubs.
Secondly always the issue of paying players, I see such payments and gratuity for services provided and nothing more. The price clubs pay depending on the quality of service is up to them and the player. I agree that most of the payments end up back over the bar any way so its a win win for all. If your supporters enjoy watching better players play for their club then the better players will and should be rewarded.
Final can anyone remember the SAFA in the aussie rules a while ago, a breakaway competition organised by successful ego driven amateur clubs of the day with the backing of the SANFL only to be dead in the water within 4 years and all those clubs had to go back to the robust amateur league with their tails between their legs.
Stay Amateur I say the local pubs have a great trade on friday nights and we all get to play and watch on sunday.

Re: CLUBS GETTING CALLS TO JOIN STATE LEAGUE IN 2013
I'm sick to death of hearing all this bullsh*t about the FFSA & SAASL...
It all should be about the betterment & growth of Our Game in this State but somehow it's turned into a sh*t fight between both Associations with both being Stuborn & Not Negotiable. WTF ???
All this infighting in our Sport, the "US & THEM MENTALITY" isn't doing the Game any favours at all...
Does anyone actually know what the Real Issues are, & why they cant Negotiate & come to an agreement? I've had brief conversations with the SAASL about it, but I have always come away non the wiser! Something about a $10-$15 FFA Player Fee for every player, something about Insurance the FFSA doesn't like how the SAASL self funded Insurance & something about one administration of the sport....
I'm not entirely sure can anyone shed light on the actual issues stopping unification of our Sport in this State?
The Whole Football Community in this State should Petition to the Government to intervene & get this resolved so Football in this State can move forward....
