Re: Amateur League Where Are We Heading?
We have 160 Clubs in our Association, if we got another 50 New Clubs would our Association be stronger or weaker? Aldo how would you feel if 5 of those New Clubs are in your council area? Do you think that would affect your Club at all e.g player numbers? What about the amount of Council money spent on your Club do you think it would be more or less? What about Government & Council Grants do you think more or less.
Why doesn't Div.1 have 25 Clubs in the Division like the EPL would Division 1 be stronger or weaker than it is at the moment?
some times less = more....

My point (thanks for the kind words) was that SAASL will not make/suggest teams go play for clubs
when it state that they will:
Encourage and assist new clubs wishing to participate in organized amateur soccer competition
as you are the man of all knowledge !!
how many teams can be accommodated or do we have the capacity for in SAASL..?
How many registered team where there 15 years ago compared to now..?
our population is growing with imigration, families moving into areas closer to the city and these imigrants
will assimilate into communities. they will try and form or merge with teams and will be given assistance by local government to create these teams and the SAASL will continue to ENCOURAGE this.
hey but im no brain surgeon...!!

Re: Amateur League Where Are We Heading?
but you can also look at it the other way KN... if more people are attracted to the SAASL in which creates more clubs . Would this then create more exposure therefore possibly more sponsorship , more media awareness.
But as Aldo suggests it might be time there are some requirements put in place for incoming teams....
Rodent .. i didnt know we had Brain surgeons at Parafield

Agree with this.Aldo Serena wrote:MSSC Blue Eagles (formerly MSSC Newton City) has been around for 33 years and we have only spent two or three of those years in Division One and spent one season in Division Four. We have been a Div 2/Div 3 club for the majority of our existence. We have not been hugely successful in terms of titles, etc but we have been able to keep a decent squad of players over the years, and have been a two-team club for all of those years.
bloodypassit's comments below are quite right, you don't need to be wealthy or have constant success to keep a strong club together.
My only issue with new clubs starting up is that you often find their facilities are usually sub-standard. In this day and age, I don't think there is any excuse to not provide a changeroom and a shower. I know this is the Amateur League, but there must be some minimum standards before clubs a let in. I have always thought the SAASL could assist with grants/loans to clubs (in conjunction with councils where applicable) to help upgrade facilities to at least a minimum standard.
Beograd have been around for a while too... we arent wealthy and managed to get promoted and stay in Div 2 this season.
Bar/canteen should also be added to this list too this is just my opinion

You don't have to be a BRAIN SURGEON RAT to realize that we have a DIV.2 SUNDAY CLUB with Proud History & Great Facilities but they are struggling for PLAYING NUMBERS & threatening to FOLD because of that reason. But Instead of directing ALL those Imigrants & all these New players as "You Say" to Clubs like that that need them. They just start New Clubs ??? I have NO PROBLEM AT ALL creating NEW CLUBS if NEEDED!!! BUT HOW CAN THAT BE WHEN STRONG DIV.2 CLUBS ARE FOLDING DUE TO LACK OF PLAYER NUMBERS??Rodent wrote:

Some interesting discussion.
Nuggetyou sure we have 160 clubs? Maybe teams?
I just thought the rumours of clubs folding or struggling are stronger this year than other years.
I mean apparently Vikings, FC Adelaide, USC Lion, Asteras, Falcons are all struggling. Will we see this more in the future? And if there is a lack of competition will Sunday clubs start looking at the Feds?

in your words HTFU if you cant survive then natural attrition will take place
and clubs that HAD a proud HISTORY will go and new/exsisting clubs will take their place
Nugget as you know things dont last forever trying to float a sinking boat is a waste of time
forcing people to join a club is not the answer.

The old saying is true you can put Brains in Monuments...
If people want to play FOOTBALL why start New Clubs?
Why not direct them too existing Clubs that need playing numbers, it's absolutley ridiculous!
Having more Clubs can do the opposite of what's intended & weaken Our Association, there is only so much money & resourse to go around. That ain't natural attrition either !!
Parafield Gardens S.C has been waiting 46 Years for a State or Federal Government Grant to Fix up our Club & there would be a stack of Clubs in the same boat...
But, NO lets start up NEW CLUBS to fight for there slice of the pie while Clubs with History Fold due to lack of player numbers & stretched resources...
It Makes no Sence at All..

Our Association, the SAASL is like a Chain & the Clubs are the Links in that Chain, with out the Clubs we have No Association.
To say let natural attrition take it's course & let the Stong Clubs Survive is very naive & narrow minded. All Clubs go through Hard times including ours, about 12 years ago Parafield Gardens were in the same position were Vikings find themself today. We were one of the lucky Clubs that survived...
May-be one day your Club might not be so lucky...
The Strength of Our Association (the SAASL) is ALL OF OUR CLUBS & THE HISTORY OF THOSE CLUBS!!!
We should be all concerned especially when a lot of our Clubs are struggling with playing numbers & were forming New Clubs at the same time...

It also make no sense to suggest to players located in Glenunga to go play for a club in Royal Park. Are these guys going to help with the committees in their first year, and living so far away?? Same goes for the kids at Pitbulls.. they live in Elizabeth (or such) and wouldn't want to travel to Royal Park.
I can see some sense in not allowing more teams in for a period of time, but if there is no-where for these players to play locally, is it the best thing to do?
It's not really the SAASL's job to help clubs with volunteers. I can tell you, even with 6 sides, it's tough to get help at Iggies sometimes.

Re: Amateur League Where Are We Heading?
We always welcome new players at OISC, and our 6 teams help cater for players of all abilities. You could be awesome and play Div 1, or crap like me and play Div 6, or somewhere in between.Stuckey wrote:It seems to me that the only clubs that will survive are the large ones with a great support base/culture. But thats so sad that those club get so large. Look at Old Iggies they have about 8 teams now it seems. Good on them but its sad that they have literally hundreds of players who want to play and other clubs struggle to get enough for an A's and B's squad.
Why doesn't the SAASL or FFSA make it easier for people to set up their own club?
For example me and mates live around Glenunga area and want to play football. We go to join up with Iggies but see the club is huge with loads of side so we take it on our own to start up a small club of our own.

IMO pitbulls will find it VERY tough
Unless they are resigned to playing 1 team in Div 6 for a looong time.
Too much competition and too many good teams up that way that if you are half good you would play for one of the existing clubs who are up in Div I and 2.
My prediction... and of course its my opinion.
I dont think pitbulls will be around for too long

There needs to be a market for players who are just Div 3-4 ability though. Nothing wrong with that being their target division, if that's all they want.BeogradGeneralsC's wrote:IMO pitbulls will find it VERY tough

If this is all that they aspite is to play in a lower rank and havce a kick around yes. However, its going to be difficult to attract the personnel

brining more families to the club which in itself helped the club as a hole and today we have 20 odd jnr sides with some of our senior players with kids playing in those teams that is the link in the chain and the reason strong clubs continue to survive not because SAASL force players to play at clubs they feel need help.
Ask yourself the question: why have clubs like the Vikings with strong history now to face Extinction..?
answer this, and then find a way to help/stop this from happening and not force people to clubs just to boost numbers
this has nothing to do with the league its a local council/government issue and while we continue to be successful without the assistance of local & state government we wont see a red cent..!KING NUGGETT wrote: Parafield Gardens S.C has been waiting 46 Years for a State or Federal Government Grant to Fix up our Club & there would be a stack of Clubs in the same boat...

It Makes no Sence at All..
most clubs in div 1 a family enviroment for them.
I thinks its time for the ill-informed to stop claiming that Div 1 clubs are throwing thousands of $$ at players
its not the case !!
Every Rat has his day !!
