Silent P,

You are right in saying "You have to beat any team to win the tournament " and totally agree 100%.

I am openly a big fan of "The Top Club" because of their consistency in building and retaining talent, they have very good coaches one of them is a good friend. That's why their fees are high.

My understanding about the questions/comments above is this:

1. You will appreciate that because the game we love has become a contest where the slightest advantage can go along way (especially in a 3 day tournament ).....having fresher legs for one will be a "nice to have" going forward.

2. Paying patrons, clubs, and parents have all the right to have a go and ask about the process FFSA has gone through in preparing the cup ties and schedule of the games. FFSA have been transparent in the past anyways...going to the point where they even announce who are present at the drawing of lots.

Hopefully one day FFSA can find time to clarify this query.....it's a tough organisation to run with so many stakeholders to satisfy....

All the best to all participants!

This is how they did the draw in NSW

Manchester United Premier Cup 2012
09-12-11 11:02

Football NSW is pleased to announce that invitations have been issued for teams to participate in the Grade 15 Manchester United Premier Cup for 2012.

The competition is for Grade 15 Youth League clubs and for this season’s tournament invitations have been issued to Premier and Super Youth League clubs and will be played at Valentine Sports Park on the on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th of February 2012.

To facilitate a workable draw it has been decided to select the twelve (12) 2012 Premier Youth League teams, together with the top three (3) U/14 2011 Super Youth League teams and one (1) U/14 2011 relegated Premier Youth League team.

The draw will consist of four groups of four playing in a round robin phase and will be seeded according to the final positions on the 2011 points table. The top two of each group will qualify for the quarter finals; winners through to the semi-finals, winners through to Grand Final and the winner will qualify for the next round of the Manchester United Premier Cup.

Seems like the sensible approach

sorry zelks i think we are debating about different things... :D
being in a easy group wont make it any easier, as adelaide city saw last year, they had an easy group, smashed every team and conked out in the qtrs or semi....what im trying to say there are no guarantees, if you are good enough and you have luck over the 3 days you will win it.....

Except in NSW it appears the 'lesser' teams are not allowed to be part of the fun.

However questions have been raised as to why "the top club" ended up having Division B and C teams in their group elimination schedule which in effect would increase their probability of progressing into the finals.

Luck of the draw perhaps?

Could someone kindly enlighten us how the schedule was drawn up for this comp?

Cheers
Highest donations to lowest, then all other clubs go in a draw

no it was all legally done on ebay... the top club paid the most for the easier group....

I wouldnt say seaford is an easy team. Adelaide city u14s played them last year in a cup round and got thru by the skin of their teeth. They were a physical , fast team that if they are the same group of lads as last year will push any team.

Can somebody please kindly share the final/official/complete cup draw information?

Rumours starting to circulate that what we've been talking about here has yet to be re-finalised due to late regos.

Cheers all

Yes Tommy Parkes - an exceptional player - very talented lad, not sure he is still 14 - he certainly played for the seaford U 14's last year - I must say that he is in the team on merit.

Congrats to the senior coach for giving such a young lad the opportunity.

I hope for everyones sake that Adelaide Utd or West Adelaide dont poach the youngster....

he was playing for SASI - come and watch him play then you will see what a talent he is - its just very good to see Ben Dale recognising natural talent and giving the lad a chance.

Let's get back to our original topic shall we?....

The Manchester United Cup is on and the schedule of games are out and I must say that group 2 is well and truly "the group of death" with 4 Div A teams in there. Below are my forecasted winners in each Group based on their standings last year:

Group 1 West Adelaide
Group 2 Adelaide Blue Eagles ( 2nd choice Croydon)
Group 3 Adelaide City
Group 4 WT Birkalla
Group 5 Campbelltown

Like everyone else, I fervently hope that the team who wins the cup will do us proud and advance well into the Asia Pacific regionals!

All the best to all the teams competing!

If what you heard is true, this increases the the probability of Adelaide City winning it because:

1) They will have (1) game per day during group stage which means fresher legs

2) They play against non Div A teams which means fresher legs again

3) Because they won't play in Pitch #3 (the worst of the three grounds with irregular slopes) which means less injury for their boys which means fresher legs again

And this competition is not only about skill and teamwork but also ....FRESH LEGS!

Just a thought.

the tournament is at burton not South Adelaide's back pitch....there's not huge slopes that will have a huge effect on a game.

Come to Burton and see Tom Parks for yourself(yes he is still only 14).. he'll be playing in the Seaford U/15 team.. While you're watching him also look-out for their Capt Charlie Rhodes.

Also could add in to the up and coming 13/14yr olds bracket Tommy Stokes and Jordy Maricic of birks and Jake Donk (reserves and 1st team) of Sturt

should be a good hunting ground for those on the poach... especially if you're an u/19's coach...
