Setting Up A Club
Obviously there is a few blokes on this board that have played an integral role in setting up some of the SAASL clubs. From someone on the outside, I thought it would be interesting to gain some insight into the challenges of creating & developing a club, starting from the initial steps. I'm interested to know the basics in setting up the club such as processes, finding grounds, players etc, and then implementing strategies to keep the club viable and what-not. Perhaps clubs could learn a thing or 2 from others.

SAASL indicated they may receive Government funding for a Club Development Officer to help with these issues !stevie gee wrote:Obviously there is a few blokes on this board that have played an integral role in setting up some of the SAASL clubs. You seem a little backwards these daysSure Conihr wrote:Do they really need funding to make that happen?
The Government funding was to fund a position for someone to assist new clubs in setting up....not for any one particular club !

I thought the league had enough in their coffers as it is. Waiting for funding sounded like an excuse for cbf to me.swannsong wrote:You seem a little backwards these daysSure Conihr wrote:Do they really need funding to make that happen?

Re: Setting Up A Club
With 160 odd existing Amateur Clubs & many of those Clubs struggling with money, infrastructure, players, sponsors, & volunteers to help run those Clubs, I'm not sure why new Clubs are needed at this time in our Association!

Re: Setting Up A Club
Hardest thing would be to find a ground initally. Then having the help and support to run a bar and canteen, set up the pitch on Sat/Sun, find coaches not just for the A's but all teams, raise enough money to stay afloat and find enough time to do it all without your missus killing you.stevie gee wrote:Obviously there is a few blokes on this board that have played an integral role in setting up some of the SAASL clubs. Pretty easy really
Agree with Nugget, we don't need to many more new clubs, more help is needed at exsisting clubs by those clubs need to be able to embrace change.

Re: Setting Up A Club
Most of those "NORTHERN" Clubs, are foundation Clubs & are responsible for the million plus dollars that our Association has in the bank, they are the strenght of our Association as shown by the number of Div.1 & 2 Clubs from the NORTH, & the Titles & Championships they have Won!Bacon888 wrote:It's the saturation of the Norfern clubs is why you can't find people.
Don't worry BaconBOY most of them have plenty of help, volunteers, players SUPPORTERS & dollar$ & will be around for years to come!
I was talking about taking on No more Clubs in our Association for your two bit Clubs benefit...

Re: Setting Up A Club
I agree with Nugget here the Amateur League already have enough clubs going around...
Can't see the point of new clubs trying to develop.

Re: Setting Up A Club
the only reason the NORTHERN clubs have volunteers, players and supporters, is because most of the NORTHERNERS have no jobs. and have nothing better to do with their time.KING NUGGETT wrote:Most of those "NORTHERN" Clubs, are foundation Clubs & are responsible for the million plus dollars that our Association has in the bank, they are the strenght of our Association as shown by the number of Div.1 & 2 Clubs from the NORTH, & the Titles & Championships they have Won!Bacon888 wrote:It's the saturation of the Norfern clubs is why you can't find people.

It seems a reoccurring story in the SAASL that clubs join, have their 'honeymoon' period so to speak, of competing well and good numbers etc but then really start to struggle on and off the field. I'm sure there are little pointers when setting up the club and keeping it successful over a period of time to keep clubs viable.
