Bad eggs what you are saying is ridiculous!! Yes GH is an employee at FFSA but he has nothing to do with the women's side of things, nothing to do with development squads, state teams etc, he works with 5 year olds at schools within the community!! So how does this make him an insider?? Maybe a pacifier...
This is completely different to the Wendy at Sturt scenario. What about last year, Chris Goddard was Cumby prems coach and state coach plus involved with SASI.... That means Cumby had an advantage!
Well to be honest, Dave and Airton are coaching all of the prems teams... Well trying to anyways... All the information that GH is using has come from these two and has also been offered to every other coach and club to use. Not our fault if your ignorance gives Fulham the advantage!!

Fitz you are wearing your heart on your shoulder. You need to take a few deep breaths and think about what has happened with an open mind.Fitz wrote:Mate, believe me, I am my own biggest critic when it comes to my coaching, as its the only way I will improve.BlackBrian_7 wrote:Fitz, end of the day Olympic wasn't offering the environment that these players were looking for.
Blaming everyone else is not going to let you put a team on the park.
Fact of the matter is-
Trials: 5 girls - no session conducted, just simple technical analysis using possession games, ball juggling etc.
Pre-season training: 6 girls (1 not eligible due to NTC commitments, but came anyway) = no training.
You tell me how I was supposed to provide the environment the girls were looking for, if they never gave us a chance to conduct a session? Paul Sortini (Head Coach) put in HOURS of work at meetings, on the phone (at his own expense) to even attempt to get girls to come to sessions, just to give us the chance to display what we knew would win them over. I can't fault Paul at all on his attempts to provide the right environment for the girls to succeed.
The girls have voted with their feet and left Olympic. It sounds like it was due to past mismanagement and may have also been a lack of confidence in the future at Olympic. Stop blaming everyone else.
Relax Fitz. Women's football is a community sport. It exists to give women an opportunity to play football. All clubs need to treat their girls, women and parents with respect, focus on keeping girls and women involved in the sport for as long as possible and maximise women's participation in the sport. Too many people in women's football are focused solely on the results at the expense of doing the right thing by their constituent community.
How many people really care who wins the league title at the end of the season? Maybe 50 people care? 50 out of how many women and girls are playing football in this state? Some clubs place so much emphasis on winning the women's league and yet the only people that really care at the club are the first team coach, the team manager, the first team players and a couple committee members. The vast majority of people at that same the club could not care less. All they want to do is to play football.
My observation of Women's football is that many of the club are not very good at looking after their own football community. You cannot treat Women and girls the same way as the Men's clubs treat their constituents. Women/girls are different and football has a different place in their life to that of men/boys. In the face of adverse circumstances a female footballer will more quickly walk away from the game and there is not the weight of numbers that the male clubs have to replace someone who quits the game forever. Women's football clubs need to focus on being very good community clubs and then enjoy the success that flows from that strong base and not focus solely on the pursuit of an almost meaningless trophy.
The demise of Olympic should be heeded as a warning to other clubs. Here you have a club that wont the cup last season, in the pursuit of excellence, that has folded before the start of the next season.
Time to move on Fitz.
Re: Shambles
Totally agree with ball boy lets focus on introducing girls and developing their skills at a young age, and keep them interested in the game for all the right reasons and not for a bit of short term glory,at the end of the day what does a trophy mean if your not enjoying the game or having fun.

Sorry but this is ridiculous. Nothing against the man or Fulham but you can't have a FFSA employee being head coach of a FFSA club!!! People were upset when WC and TJ were involved at Sturt, how's this different? He can be a good coach etc, but then he should coach with a FFSA squad (don't they have a few of those??!!). Maybe a junior team, but a Prem team is a joke. It just makes it an advantage for Fulham to have an "insider" at the helm, no matter that he is a decent guy. The only decent thing to do here is to re-think about it. This is just another way to create a lot of upset among clubs. Maybe some other clubs should have A. Andrioli or D. Edmondson coaching then. What a lot of shiraz....

Campbelltown was heading in the right direction with the coach in place and such a young squad . with a few experience players . 15s and 13s doing really well . now over the off season gone . shame as the club has made its first u11 team too , some of it comes down to poaching , and fees . and just not enough players . and some out right bitching , and that gets me . seems Adelaide Uni is the flavour of the month , and fair enough .. but i say this another couple of years and you will be struggling to make a divisions . and thats reality

Instead, you are embarrassing yourself here. Fair enough you defend Fulham, but you say things that show very clearly how much this situation is actually tricky. The facts are that:
1) Geoff H. IS A FFSA EMPLOYEE, and this is just the same as it was for Wendy Carter with Sturt. She was an employee and therefore FFSA considered that there could be some conflicts of interest. You are either blind or drunk if you don't see it. :?
2) Chris Goddard coaching club and SASI at once caused a lot of bitterness last year when they picked state teams and did W League trials. People thought he was favouring his players etc.
3) Dave and Airton are NOT coaching any prem team, what the **** are you talking about? Maybe they are sharing some information, leadership etc (which is their job btw) but they are definitely NOT HEAD COACHES of any club. And this is the difference, in case you need me to spell it out.
So, basically, GH coaching Fulham is total cabernet.
Why not using him to go around to ALL clubs and run the same sessions for everyone? That would be more equitable maybe...If I was on any club's board, I'd never accept a FFSA coach being the opposition's coach. All clubs pay fees to FFSA, why one club gets a well qualified head coach from the federation? Come on, even a child can see that it can't be right...
Again - surprise - very poor decisions from FFSA.

This has been offered in the past, and not just by Geoff but also other coaches from the coaching and development at FFSA - going out to clubs and running sessions for junior and senior coaches. Even when the FFSA go out and show coaches these sessions, half the time, clubs go back to their own ways and send their players back up Mt Lofty via Waterfall Gully - I am sure this approach also keeps players in the game.
The information and knowledge the FFSA have is no mystical secret - just ask for it. There are booklets about the National Curriculum and various powerpoints floating around. The FFSA sent out a 2012 Calendar which also included dates in regards to seminars Dave and Co. will be running throughout the season, based on various parts of the game. I would put money on that if any coach wanted added infomation or sessions run at their club, call the FFSA and they will have someone come out.
How are coaches in SA supposed to utilise their knowledge if they are not allowed to coach a team? Spending $1000 plus to do the C License and not being able to use it? Developing quality coaches is just as important as developing the players.
Don't come on here and hide behind your forum name and try tell me that there is an unfair advantage. Every coach can get access to all of the same information - but it won't magically fall out of the sky.

Dear Evens - if anyone was left high and dry it was myself and last seasons senior coaching staff at Fulham - thrown into the job in January and having lost 17 players from 2010 for various reasons. We only had 8 players come out to pre-season during the first 3 weeks. Thanks to great support staff, we managed to field 2 senior teams AND by no means am I leaving anyone high and dry in 2012 - our player numbers are very strong. Thanks for your concern.
Good luck to you and your team this season.
PS: It's actually 'N. Burgess' not A. Burgers, and 'Neits' not Netts. I'll let your lack of knowledge slip this time.

Re: Shambles
This doesn't justify why a FFSA league club can get a HEAD COACH who works (paid staff) at FFSA. I'm sure other clubs would be happy to have GH or any other development officer out at their sessions and it's totally great that GH does that at Fulham. That's the impression we all had when this info came about. But this is very different from being IN CHARGE of the club (or Prems) as a head coach. My point is not about development - is about fairness from FFSA.neits/burgo/shadow wrote:Bad Egg wrote:mj#9, "my ignorance" could not possibly give Fulham or any club any advantage at all. You just DON'T HAVE A CLUB COACHED BY A FFSA EMPLOYEE. Ican't believe there isn't a rule that prevents that. Then by this approach Michael Carter could be the president of Metro Stars, Airton Andrioli the Head Coach, John Mundy the assistant and Wendy Carter the team manager. Maybe, in that case you would see the problem
Stop being so self-defensive and step back into reality! Get Fulham a coach who is NOT A FFSA EMPLOYEE and use the FFSA development officers as they are supposed to be used. Development officers that is, not head coaches. And FFSA, get your act together! Here there's another chance to look decent, don't waste it.
Maybe all clubs should start booking GH for all sessions when Fulham train, then you'll see if there are problems.
Re: Shambles
I think you may be right cg1! Some things must be said though, this game is being murdered by stupid rules/structures like this one. I really don't think ppl have a problem with GH or Fulham in particular...but no way that a club can be head coached directly by a FFSA paid staff. Hopefully they understand this before it becomes too big...cg1 wrote:Bad Egg – you need to be careful!Bad Egg wrote:I thought that GH was "helping" at Fulham, not being the head coach. What is it that you are really afraid of here, Bad Egg? Let's meet for a coffee before I leave and we can discuss the future of Women's football. Because it sure as hell won't get any better with individuals such as yourself who choose to shoot down clubs that are trying to do the right thing. If I wasn't going overseas this year I would continue coaching Fulham AND I would CHOOSE to surround myself with the development officers to pick their brains and be in the right environment that would help my players succeed. Oh, no, I can't do that because that would give me an advantage - Sorry. I suppose being involved with the U13 and U15 state teams last year (paid by the FFSA) gave me an advantage over every other club in the Premier League? Give me a break.

Forget about the advantage (if you want to be childish and can't see it), it still is totally not right that a paid FFSA staff (coaching staff too) is a club head coach. Period.

i agree with bad eggs nothing against Fulham or Gh but all the other clubs will now be to a disadvantage now because it may look like there is some advantages if you go and play at any particular club which has a ffsa coach as the head coach.eg selection in state or w league it might have even been the cause for olympic to fold being so close and giving the girls a reason to move thing or knowing they are going to get the absoult best coaching.well done to netts (fulham) for securing that but i belive very bad move from ffsa for allowing it only will cause bitterness from all other clubs

Great to have FFSA coaches involved with the game if they are good - but definitely not as a head coach.
Why can't Fulham appoint a club coach just like every other club (are they so special?) and use Geoff as a development officer? How can he go out to coach Fulham and at the same time go to other clubs (like, the same night lol!) too? When are Fulham training? So basically that means they are "booking" all those sessions with the FFSA development officer and he will be busy always with the same club!? How is this supposed to be "development" from FFSA? What if, say, Para Hills wanted him out to their training but he can't go because he's always busy with Fulham? And what if another club for whatever reason loses their coach like it happened to Nenita and demands that FFSA gives them another development officer as a head coach, just like it happened at Fulham? Probably FFSA would say no (don't think there are any other free ones) and this would surely be a double standard treatment.
I think it's a bad decision because even if ppl don't go out and bring this to FFSA (they only say it on the forum-many clubs are afraid of FFSA to go out and publicly oppose them, just like it happens with state coaches and parents) then they grow a lot of resentment. We have all seen this before with clubs getting angry for double standards, club people leaving the game etc.
Is this official though or only a rumor? Did FFSA really allow this? It sounds a bit strange, considering that in the past some ppl were treated very differently....Maybe it's not true.

Re: Shambles
no different to when Wendy was coaching at metro, and that was 10 years ago, nothing changes, the only thing that changes in the number of girls playing the game, would love to find out the numbers in the last years of registered players
Re: Shambles
Personally I have no problems with Geoff coaching Fulham. It is good for his development as a coach and great for all the girls at Fulham. Good luck to him. If any other clubs want an FFSA employee to conduct a training session, I dare say that is what Dave E or Jono Ruse are being employed to do. Actually, if anyone is to makea gripe about FFSA, I think they need more Game Development Officers.
I know for a fact that Geoff has spent a lot of his own money to do the AFC C License, and part of the conditions of progressing to the B License are to get practical experience as the head coach of a club. He has had a request to coach being evaluated by the FFSA board for quite some time and obviously they feel he can balance his commitments.
Its good for the game to have highly technical, trained coaches. Other coaches can see the benchmark and adjust accordingly. All the information they need to become better coaches is available from the FFA, FFSA, and online. There are really no secrets in coaching, it just takes an applied, thoughtful individual to apply the right concepts at the right time. Actually, most of a coach's job is observation and then having an ability to effectively communicate information.

By this I mean is he employed to go out to schools , community etc. 8am till 5 pm. for instance. That is what he is being paid to do.
So if this is the case what he does after hours is irrelevant. I am sure this has all been taken into account by FFSA and by GH.
What people are saying on here is because he is employed by FFSA he can coach neither a men or womens club associated with FFSA. Off to the amateur league with GH. Oh thats right amateurs have nothing to do with FFSA so he would lose his job with FFSA.
I am sure GH would be willing to make himself available to other clubs from time to time gratis.
All coaches in the Womens League are expected to follow the National Curriculam guidelines set by Football Australia. I hope they are because if they arent then people like GH, DE a and Airton or whoever are wasting their time.
Surely people want the best qualified people involved in clubs and womens football overall. To my knowledge only 3 people coaching in Womens Premier League have an AFC C license. Tracey Jenkins, Nenita (leaving) and Geoff. I will stand corrected. It is more about coach the coaches so players benefit.

[quote]Chris Goddard coaching club and SASI at once caused a lot of bitterness last year when they picked state teams and did W League trials. People thought he was favouring his players etc.[quote]
Don't let facts get in the way of nasty comments will you?
My recollection of the 2011 Under 15 State team last year was that two Cumberland players were selected - Emma Checker and Monique Ianella. Anyone who does not think they were worthy of their place knows nothing about the younger players in the women's game.
In addition, Kev McCormack was Head Coach at SASI - he was responsible for awarding the scholarships. W league trials ??? No input into selection as far as I know and to my knowledge only 2 Cumberland players in the squad - Emma Checker and Leanne Slater
Why is this forum full of negative comments about people who have tried to do their best for the Women's game

Hey, I never said CG actually did anything wrong! I just pointed out that lots of ppl were very bitter about his double role and IMO lots will be bitter (actually, I posted this because I already heard a lot of bitterness about this) with the GH-Fulham thing. Don't think I am the one who has a vested interest here...but the reality is that women's soccer is not a big spore here and everybody knows everybody. What ppl say on the grapevine gets to you right away, and ATM ppl are pi$$ed off with Fulham getting favours from FFSA when other clubs are being shafted.Hunter wrote:Chris Goddard coaching club and SASI at once caused a lot of bitterness last year when they picked state teams and did W League trials. Only post in this thread that makes sense. The man is employed by the ffsa to do a specific job in specific hours, what he does in his own time is his own business. The way I see it, only one womens team was ambitious / smart enough to approach the best coach they possibly could while the rest of you just sat there doing the same old things with the same old people. Get over it and be thankful you have a decent coach who wants to be involved in the womens game as with all this cr@p dont be surprised if the bloke just decideds it aint worth it.

Re: Shambles
as an interested onlooker, I thought it might add value to this debate to actually provide a definition of a conflict of interest.
Furthermore, those who suggest that a conflict of interest cannot exist because the alledged conflict occurs 'outside of working hours' in 'private time', should also have a re-think.A conflict of interest occurs when an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other.
More generally, conflicts of interest can be defined as any situation in which an individual or corporation (either private or governmental) is in a position to exploit a professional or official capacity in some way for their personal or corporate benefit.
Depending upon the law or rules related to a particular organization, the existence of a conflict of interest may not, in and of itself, be evidence of wrongdoing. In fact, for many professionals, it is virtually impossible to avoid having conflicts of interest from time to time. A conflict of interest can, however, become a legal matter for example when an individual tries (and/or succeeds in) influencing the outcome of a decision, for personal benefit. A director or executive of a corporation will be subject to legal liability if a conflict of interest breaches his Duty of Loyalty.
There often is confusion over these two situations. Someone accused of a conflict of interest may deny that a conflict exists because he/she did not act improperly. In fact, a conflict of interest can exist even if there are no improper acts as a result of it. (One way to understand this is to use the term "conflict of roles". A person with two roles—an individual who owns stock and is also a government official, for example—may experience situations where those two roles conflict. The conflict can be mitigated—see below—but it still exists. In and of itself, having two roles is not illegal, but the differing roles will certainly provide an incentive for improper acts in some circumstances.)

Re: Shambles
What are people afraid off, they havent won anything yet. What if they finish 4th ( which could be bottom the way it's going ) what are people going to whinge about then ? Let it go, use all your good energy towards a better use, within your club.
Re: Shambles
Hey mj#9. I think you misquoted me. I certainly did not say anything about Fulham getting favours from the FFSA. In fact I think quite the opposite. The Women's game in SA needs as many high quality coaches in the clubs as possible. If Geoff is coaching at Fulham in addition to his job as Game Development Officer, then this is really positive and reverses a worrying trend of coaches leaving the Women's game here.
Just a few examples......Paul Sortini (never had the chance to get started in the Premier League), Sharon Black, Chris Goddard, Dave Leesan, Kev McCormack, Dan Patterson, Drago Klajic, Amy Zahirski, Chris Gross, Andy Deakin and now Nenita....etc. etc... I'm sure you can add a few more during the last 5 years or so.
And sure....some will say good riddance to some or all of the above for personal or other reasons but that is not the point. They all have appropriate paper qualifications and experience, which has been lost to the game.
Seems to me the endless negativity may well contribute to some of these people moving to the mens/boys game or leaving all together.
So Geoff taking the reins at Fulham is good but with all this stuff written before a ball is kicked - I hope he has a strong backbone, particularly if Fulham are succesful

Re: Shambles
He might have all the qualifications, and work with kids, lets see if he can coach at Senior Level. I don't know him or seen him coach, seems a lot of paranoir before even a ball has been kicked. Who is to say he is better then the other coaches in the league anyway. So far he has won nothing or achieved anything.
To me all the other coaches that have been coaching in the league know more about the womans game then him anyway.
Let time be the judge
