Re: Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club Pre-season 2012
I don't think the Juniors of the Downs (celebrating the 50th year of the club) will need their pre -season starting on that date - hence why the sniors have been mentioned. If you are really that concerned I am sure Swanny can set up a seminar that you can attend to find out the full history of the club - tea and coffee will be made available to you if you require.

Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club celebrates its 50th. year next year and its 41st season of Senior Football.keegan wrote: all the details mentions the senior teams then refers to 'our 50th year'
Hence, the Club, which encompasses Juniors and Seniors, celebrates it's 50th year in 2012.
I'm not sure if any of the first 32 of juniors at the Downs would qualify any more to play Juniors anymore.
That is probably why it is mentioned in this forum.

Re: Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club Pre-season 2012
Actually to be technically correct the club in its present form is actually celebrating its 35 year with 1977 being the year that the seniors and the juniors were incorporated into one body. Before that there were two separate bodies, one for the seniors and one for the juniors. But lets just say the Elizabeth Downs is celebrating its 50th year as an organized body in the soccer community and no doubt that Sid Goode, Hughie Ross and many others would be so happy and pround to see something they help start 50years ago to still be so strong and thriving.

Re: Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club Pre-season 2012
htafc may correct me on this, but according to Len Spriggs book, the Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club formed after the opening of the Elizabeth Downs Primary School at the end of the 1962...when they began the E&DJSC hadn't quite formed, not until 1963 when it was still known as the Far Northern Zone Junior Soccer Council.keegan wrote:thanks swanny and htfac{2 huddersfield T fans you guys must be family!} for the info, so its 50 yrs association the eliz downs sc has with eliz & dist juniors assc. cheershtfac wrote:Actually to be technically correct the club in its present form is actually celebrating its 35 year with 1977 being the year that the seniors and the juniors were incorporated into one body. Sid Goode had previously been involved with Broadmeadows for the 1962 season where his son Tony Goode played and Hughie Ross's son Billy Ross was playing for Elizabeth North. With their sons moving to the newly opened Elizabeth Downs School they decided to field teams representing the school (but I believe they still played at Broadmeadows).
So in effect, 2012 represents the 50th anniversary of Sid Goode and Hughie Ross forming the Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club..and the 50th. anniversary of the Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club competing in any football competitions.

No that is not correct - Mori is talking to Elizabeth Downs
Re: Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club Pre-season 2012
That's correct swannsong. The Far Northern Zone Junior Soccer Council is as the name suggests a school based competition. By 1964 the people involved in running Far Northern Zone Junior Soccer Council, including Len Spriggs, saw more advantages in running a similar system as a club based competition instead. This was primarily to cater for those children moving from primary to secondary schools. This allowed those children, and also organizing parents, to maintain their association with one team allowing for continuity and better organization. So in effect all "clubs" that trace their early origins back to those school based teams share the same birth date in 1964. Elizabeth Vale, Elizabeth Grove, Para Hills, and Elizabeth Downs are the only survivors from those days. Teams that have gone include Broadmeadows, Elizabeth North, Elizabeth West, Elizabeth South, Elizabeth East and Elizabeth Park (the latter two merged to form Eastern Park). Other teams from Brahma Lodge and Salisbury also participated in 1964 but never consolidated themselves to form ongoing clubs.swannsong wrote:htafc may correct me on this, but according to Len Spriggs book, the Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club formed after the opening of the Elizabeth Downs Primary School at the end of the 1962...when they began the E&DJSC hadn't quite formed, not until 1963 when it was still known as the Far Northern Zone Junior Soccer Council.keegan wrote:thanks swanny and htfac{2 huddersfield T fans you guys must be family!} for the info, so its 50 yrs association the eliz downs sc has with eliz & dist juniors assc. cheershtfac wrote:Actually to be technically correct the club in its present form is actually celebrating its 35 year with 1977 being the year that the seniors and the juniors were incorporated into one body.
