Jonjo gets his first PL start. Made up for him, he's a great talent.

2 up at half time, Bellamy and Skrtel the scorers. Very happy Jonjo starting, believe he has a lot of quality about him and only needs experience to hone his skills. Personally I am absolutely loving having Bellamy back at LFC. Never wanted the guy to leave in the first place.BowTiesAreCool wrote:Jonjo gets his first PL start. Re: Liverpool 2011/12
Likewise. Bellamy is a very good addition to the side. Needs to be careful in this second half though, likewise with Adam.Fitz wrote:2 up at half time, Bellamy and Skrtel the scorers. Re: Liverpool 2011/12
very, very easy 2 nil win against a poor Villa side. still worried by the lack of genuine creativity other than Suarez (unlucky not to score twice hitting woodwork). still made a few things happen but definitely believe we need some more quality in the final 3rd.

Re: Liverpool 2011/12
currently watching man city v arsenal and city attack with direction, purpose and speed. 3 things we didnt have tonight. we have the defensive stability (however Carra looked very shaky when he came on), but we dont have the direct attacking intent of a top, top side.

Re: Liverpool 2011/12
It's always good to win away, but this Villa side was poor and uninspired and I reckon we should of attacked with more intent. Lots of times we looked for a backwards pass instead of going forward. Still happy with the win last season we lost to Villa so it's an improvement. Downing is slowly getting better and more confident. Good to see jonjo get given a go! Carra looked off pace and almost cost us a goal at the end there with his slow distribution. Need the 3 points vs wigan though

This will be met with ridicule from a lot of people on here I'm sure, but for me, Skrtel is the best centre half in the league right now. Going from strength to strength and is looking as good as he was in 2008.

He just doesn't have any weaknesses right now. If anyone wants to put forth an actual argument, I'd love to hear it.

And I'm sure Dirk Kuyt could do a job there

Agger is right up there, but I think Skrtel is playing better at the moment.Lucas is god wrote:Daniel Agger.BowTiesAreCool wrote:This will be met with ridicule from a lot of people on here I'm sure, but for me, Skrtel is the best centre half in the league right now. Re: Liverpool 2011/12
Suarez seemed to not complain last night which is good as it will stop him from getting unnescary bookings but honestly, how much does he have to get manhandled to recieve a free kick? It's getting stupid now.

Re: Liverpool 2011/12
I rate Nemanja Vidic, Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen and Daniel Agger above Skrtel. Ledley King not far off when fit. Very happy with how Skrtel is playing this season and we are looking a solid defensive unit (would be even better with Lucas). I worry a bit about Johnson against the bigger sides, and think Martin Kelly is a better option against those teams. I finally really like our options at the defensive end of the pitch. We dont need to buy anyone in January bar someone who is exceptional in the attacking 3rd. Probably only one player at a fairly significant outlay will come to LFC.

Re: Liverpool 2011/12
Vidic is injured. Kompany is inconsistent recently and Skrtel is out performing Agger right now. Vermaelen is a decent shout, but I still think Skrtel is in better form.Fitz wrote:I rate Nemanja Vidic, Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen and Daniel Agger above Skrtel. In that case i think Marcel Desailly is better, even though he's retired...

The team I loathe has the best centre half, in Vermaelen. If fit, Ledders would piss on the lot of them but his knees are worse than mine.

Re: Liverpool 2011/12
Vermaelen is the only other centre half in the league that I would class as being a rival to Skrtel right now. But it's only a matter of time until he's injured again. Anyhow, at this point in time, I think Martin edges it. He's become a beast in the air, comfortable in possession, great tackling ability, hard as nails, pacey, his decision making has improved dramatically and he's no longer prone to giving away fouls in dangerous areas. I really can't say enough good things about him right now.Nice One Cyril wrote:Ridicule Ridicule Ridicule.BowTiesAreCool wrote:This will be met with ridicule from a lot of people on here I'm sure, but for me, Skrtel is the best centre half in the league right now. The whole Ledley King argument is a moot point as well. Woulda, coulda, shoulda been one of the best in the world. Fact is he isn't. It's unfortunate, but it's just the way it is for him.

By replying on this forum topic, you can keep Liverpool on top of something, because they aint been on top of a ladder since 1990

Re: Liverpool 2011/12
In all honesty, I think judging a player in any position in isolation deserves ridicule. If, and that's a big if, Skrtel is the best centre half in the league, it's at least partly because he has a decent midfield in front of him. Put him in Gary Cahill's position and Bolton would ship just as many goals as they do now.BowTiesAreCool wrote:Vermaelen is the only other centre half in the league that I would class as being a rival to Skrtel right now.
