Why can't Sunday teams understand that if you are a good club you don't have to pay guys to play for you.

Plenty of good players and good Sunday clubs. Not all are paid, some are.
Some players like to play in the Sunday league becuase they play in front of a crowd. Some like the facilities. Some like to play with their mates who already play at the club.
If you think Sunday clubs are the only ones who pay players, you're dreaming.

- Saints wouldn't
- Villa wouldn't be
- BOSA wouldn't be
who else in the league has players worth paying?
Ross Calabria might get petrol money for Salisbury Villa but he would be the only one outside of the top 3 clubs worth paying.
Re: 2012 Transfer Rumours and Movements
Worth paying and those paid are two very different ends of the argument

Ok genius, given that we play in front of no more than 50 people. Who deserves payment to play in our league?El Diez wrote:[quote="BlackBrian_7

I only mentioned Ross because he was a Super League player for many years before he came to Salisbury Villa and is still top quality. Villa & Bosa got mentioned because they have been consistently the top teams in the Sat Div 1 competition and I wouldn't think they would be paying players due to the nature of their clubs - essentially social teams of pretty good players who still want a kick but want to play with other good players.
If other clubs are paying their players in the league then they are nuts given the results that they achieve.
All b*llsh*t aside if the Sunday div 1 clubs want to pay their players then good on them, it's well reported that they gain significant turnover from their bar and canteen due to their large support & there is a correlation between the success of the team and the level of support they get. They are generally well established clubs with their own grounds and quite stable.
Most Sat Div 1 clubs don't have decent change rooms let alone clubrooms, why the f*ck would you pay anyone in that league.

have u ever heard of
Signori, Ivanovic, Menillo, Ellul, Gale, Cerrachio, Tony Scalzi, De Rosa, Karapetis, Musci, Faraone, Scardigno, Barbaro, Vatsilas etc, just to name a few????
these are quality players that have played in Sat competition and deserve to get some $$$ - if they have then so be it!
Saturday teams have quality on the pitch and bring in the crowds, so they would in turn bring in money over the bar and counter!

Re: 2012 Transfer Rumours and Movements
Have never seen a decent turnout to a Saturday Div 1 game. I havnt seen alot i will admit but last time we played AV they had may 20 supporters and no bar, cant see any turnover in that.El Diez wrote:

There are some great clubs in the Sat league that support opposition bars well.
Re: 2012 Transfer Rumours and Movements
Plenty of clubs that play Saturdays have some decent cash behind them through some hard and strenuous work, and they choose to spend it on player payments.BlackBrian_7 wrote: Most Sat Div 1 clubs don't have decent change rooms let alone clubrooms, why the f*ck would you pay anyone in that league.

There maybe a few players that get paid a win but nothing like some Sunday players would get paid.

Maybe they all drink a carton and a bottle of spirits hence their large turnover.
It's obviously a lot more widespread the payment of players in the AMATEUR competition than what I thought.
Regarding facilities, I would have thought it be more important to have a sustainable base to work from rather than move from place to place every few years.
Take Villa for example, outstanding success over the years - Undisputed - yet you play out of a school that is on the other side of town from your traditional base of the inner eastern suburbs. If you are paying the money as has been reputed to players well past their prime couldn't this have been put to better use building a sustainable future for your club?

Not sure if this is old news but heard today that Russell Waller has committed to the gardens along with Steven stam. Gardens fav to do the three peat
Re: 2012 Transfer Rumours and Movements
Having a junior set up also helps....u can't tell me Sunday clubs don't take cash out of their juniors to fund the senior team.... And their is a couple of Saturday div 1 players that get paid...the hawks generally have a solid crowd and going into div 1 an the redevelopment of the club rooms that's goin on over the break hopefully will bring in the crowds and make it a great club to visit!!! Saturday div WILL get there watch out Sunday haha
Re: 2012 Transfer Rumours and Movements
I currently play Saturdays and I played Sundays for many years, in my opinion there is a stark contrast between the two. Crowd support is terrible compared to the Sunday clubs. Salisbury Villa and MA Hawks are probably the two most supported clubs I've encountered, their average attendance would still be the worst if they were to play Sunday Div 1 though. Generally the facilities are of a lower standard as well. Match payments are also minimal in comparison to Sundays, a select few players might get small payments, fees paid for, etc. Hardly compares to an entire team getting paid.
