No Refs again this year!?
More than 50% of the games had no refs over the weekend, fsa teams exempt ofcourse… every single one of their games had refs.
Will we have no refs over cup rounds too?
It’s putting kids in danger by not having a trained ref keeping control of the game and monitoring safety. It’s only a matter of time before games get too loose, followed by angry parents erupting. Parents assuming the home fill in ref is willing to cheat… and who’s liable for the fill in ref if anything is to happen while on the pitch? Roll their ankle and can’t work?
How do you release a new league proudly and still have no refs for it!?

Re: No Refs again this year!?
I’ve seen FSA advertise for refs a lot on social media they must be having trouble recruiting them.
It’s a horrible job they get so much crap from parents it’s not surprising sadly.

Re: No Refs again this year!?
The majority of the senior games were shifted from Saturday to Sunday so the junior games definitely took a hit in terms of referee availability
Re: No Refs again this year!?
Looks like there's pretty good coverage of junior games for this weekend.

Re: No Refs again this year!?
The FSA has lost 30% of referees, mainly young referees, due to continued abuse at matches.
I have watched basketball competitions at junior levels, and there are plenty of young kids refereeing, and they have stricter rules in place, including technical fouls called against spectators, and even abandoning games.

I ref'd an under 13 preseason game and copped it from opposition parents & coaches, clearly Im used to copping a bit of stick and addressed it but I can understand it putting off young refs, it cant be accepted.BeNatural wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 2:22 pm The FSA has lost 30% of referees, mainly young referees, due to continued abuse at matches.

Speak up to your own supporters if they are crossing the line at junior football games.

So sad but true not helped by behaviour towards match officials at the top level . Time for FIFA to get serious on bad behaviour by players and coaches .BeNatural wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 2:22 pm The FSA has lost 30% of referees, mainly young referees, due to continued abuse at matches.

Sadly spectator and player behaviour drives referees away , it’s just an Australian problem , UK suffering a referee shortage .

Re: No Refs again this year!?
I helped out and referred an U14 game Sunday. The parents were absolutely rabid, it was absolutely not the environement for a young referee to learn the game

Re: No Refs again this year!?
With so many games being postponed yesterday its crazy that there were no refs for U13 YPL Cup & 14 YSL Cup at Olympic yesterday, especially being they played an FSA team.
Also no refs at Marden at the same time for their games that were at 8:45.
Where were all the Refs?
Also, I ended up doing the 13's game & offered both coaches a water break during the halves as it was almost 30 degrees in which they both were happy to do, but what's the actual temp for drinks breaks for kids games?
Excellent game to Ref, no arguing from players, coaches or parents, only had to give 1 free kick the whole game. If only all games were that easy.

There is no rule on drink breaks, its just common sense that if both teams think its hot, then schedule a break.paul merson wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 6:58 am With so many games being postponed yesterday its crazy that there were no refs for U13 YPL Cup & 14 YSL Cup at Olympic yesterday, especially being they played an FSA team.

Quite a few postponements happened on the day, so it may have been too late to move refs to get to venues in time.

Re: No Refs again this year!?
But it was the round of 32 for YPL cup so not all teams playing, games were reduced anyway, let alone the cancelation of later games.
It does ruin the theory that FSA teams always get official refs.
Anyway, was a nice sunday morning run around.
