State League 2025

Post by brushmancity »

Women’s State League fixtures have been released for next season. 8 team league playing each other 3 times for a season of 21 games. I don’t know where they are as I only have my daughter’s club. Teams are, Jets, Vista, Jaguars, Grove, South Adelaide, Cove, Western Strikers and Sturt Lions.

2025 should be a positive WSL season for a few reasons:
  • Consolidation to 8 teams will heighten the quality and make scorelines closer
  • No new teams admitted for the first time since 2021
  • All teams have a reasonable track record in the comp now (Jags, Jets, Cove, Vista, South - 5, Grove - 4, Sturt, Strikers - 2)

Good commentary. I agree. 8 teams of decent quality. Very competitive. If they've recruited and or developed players then it will be a very close comp. The prize on offer is a spot in the WNPL.

No new teams for 3 years.

Give all the clubs a chance to shore up their player numbers and their junior setups. Let the player numbers consolidate with the clubs that are already setup.

There are too many clubs for the number of players out there.

Looks like Grove are struggling this season.

Modbury Vista doing well after splashing the cash around.

you're getting confused with the men's team, the side is basically the same as last years team, they haven't poached any players of any note from wnpl teams (starting players at least)and the whole team gets a match payment for win-draw-loss, this has always been their way ,for the most part its just a return on the players registrations

Grove seemed decent in the cup, seems like a long season for them. Overall though, the league looks alot more stable and competitive.

some players got a big increase in 2025. I am well aware after chatting with one of the players.

that player might have gone from being a bench player to a starting player, that'd be aa big increase for her , I know more than one player, and most are on the same, and
it is just speculation, unless someone is bragging (inflating their worth) that players are on big money as stated before they get paid on scale for a win, draw or loss and no I'm not on the committee I just know a friend of a friend of a friend, maybe the same one as you' spooky

Both statements are interesting given WSL is a fully amateur competition (as FSA reiterated many times in 2024) and clubs were up in arms last year when a photo of a Campbelltown player signing a contract was posted on social media (the FSA subsequently went into crackdown mode but multiple clubs pay well over the $200 "expenses" limit). Paying on a results-based scale, as many WNPL clubs via their Professional Contracts submitted to Football Australia implement, is not permitted in the WSL.

Isn't it considered a hobby if you are reimbursed less than $10k a year?
