WNPL Season 2025

Post by billy the kid »

On another positive note, I am looking forward to the upcoming season. What questions will raise?

1) City. How will they perform and react to a very poor 2024? And will they finally put some money to upgrade their appalling changerooms. Either that or p;lay elsewhere. Been sub-standard for over a decade.

2) UNI and Salisbury? will they finally start to put together a good and consistent performances and stop rolling the relegation dice? A couple of teams in SL that are worthy of a spot in the WNPL.

3) Campbelltown? Can and will they bring that winning form SL into the WNPL? Confidence and team unity can do wonders. WNPL is a different kettle. If they can be competitive and get a a few wins or draws AND stay in WNPL, they can build. If not....then back to SL>

4) Will Comets and Westies continue to lead the way?

5) Will Chris and Co at Birks deliver the first Cup for Birks women?

Did you really just say "stop rolling the relegation dice" about a team that has won back to back, and 3 of the last 4 championships and haven't missed the finals in 6 years?

You are correct. Apologies. Hmmm note to self: read before posting. Rolling the dice for Uni. Ought to have added, "and stability and consistency for SI". Yes. the record has been exceptional. Except for dispatching the coach after winning the championship.

I'm expecting Comets to hold their position with another top four finish but Westies for me will struggle to finish top TWO & might only just make the top four (the absence of Rachael Quigley & Abbey Burns late last season really showed them up).

West Adelaide had an 18 game winning streak ended in the Grand Final; whilst you might consider that as being showed up, around half that run was achieved without Quigley and Burns.

Having said that, the Pre-Season tournament has shown that it is perhaps early to get any insight for the season ahead from most sides. Even FSA NTC have appeared to be under strength (albeit with two solid wins).

1) city will struggle again, i think they just dont have the volume of players needed to challenge
2) Uni are gone, they must be favourites for the drop, there is a big gap between them and the next best team
2a) Salisbury could be the surpise drop off this year
3) Campbelltown will finish mid table
4)comets and Westies will be top 2
5)Birks will be 3rd, could surprise one of the top 2 in the finals series

Ladder

1.Comets
2.West
3.Birks
4.NTC
5.Metro
6.Inter
7.City
8.Campbelltown
9.Flinders
10. Uni

RS....Good analysis. Dire times for Uni. SI in for another drop. I agree. to both. Birks' time to make the move and can be a real contender. Metro?

You've put C'town as mid table, but you've got them 3rd to bottom. I think mid-table is a good finish for year one in WNPL

i think the top 4 is set, 5-8 will be really close , separated by minimal points. bottom 2 will be a long way off, you can see Flinders taking points off one of the so called bigger teams and that's what will place them above Uni(although Uni did beat Comets last year)
i cant see Uni winning a game TBH

I think people are overstating the differences between Uni and Flinders.

Uni have a coach that has been through a relegation battle before, one that went to the final day. Comets have a coach that has only experienced the higher end of the table.

Yes, Cote Rojas makes a significant difference in a dept hard to come by - goals, but she only scored 9 in 2023 for Flinders in a team that had more support (Melino, Willoughby, Hewitt) and experience (Hays, Jensen) and only just avoided the drop on the final day.

Uni have recruited two visa players that we are yet to know the level of impact of. Most of the younger players they have this season played a number of games last season, so have a level of experience already.

I am not stating one is weaker than the other, I just believe the gap is narrower than assumed.
