AFC Asian Cup U20. Australia top Group A

Post by Con M »

Australia beat China tonight 2-1 and top Group A with 9 points.

Good to see a number of Adelaide boys on the score sheet.

ps, for a host Country with a population of 1.4 billion that was a terribly small crowd they drew to cavernous stadium. Have a look at the 2-minute highlights on YouTube.

I hope Ch10 sort out the 1/4 Final. 10Play is awkward for people to initially access. Why can’t they telecast on Ch10Bold?

Quarter Final: Australia 3 Iraq 2.

Into the Semi-Final!

Jovanovic & Kikianis were scorers and Talladira, Yull & Toure were in the lineup.

Great result by the young boys.

Fantastic comeback goal by Kikianis. Center backs scoring goals by foot, who would have thought!

It clearly demonstrates what youth development is all about.

This game should be very interesting.

Are our young players up to Japan's standard?

Sure are! I watched it live last night and they were very good.

Straya 🇦🇺 2, Japan 🇯🇵 0.

Into the Asian Cup Final against the $trillionaire Saudi Arabians on Saturday 1 March 2025 at 10pm South Strayan time, live on Ch10Play.

Proud of so many Adelaide guys in the Squad.

Update. The Final is now going to be on free-to-air Ch10Bold.

It’s a pity that Channel 10 didn’t have the guts to put it on its main Channel. Oh no, it had to give preference to a Yankee cop show.
In fact they have been sleep-walking during this successful run by the Young ⚽️ Socceroos and should have at least had the quarters & semis on easier-to-access Ch10Bold.

Hopefully, they win it and stick it up the media who refuse to show any respect to the players and to Football in general.
How hard is it?

What about Football SA marketing their progress?

With five South Aussie youngsters on that team, you'd think the Advertiser and TV channels would highlight their achievements.

Absolutely pathetic.

AFC U20 Asian Cup China 2025 Final™ on Saturday, 1 March at 10:30pm AEDT.

Match Details
Subway Young Socceroos v Saudi Arabia
Saturday, 1 March 2025
Bao’an Sports Centre Stadium, Shenzhen
Kick-off: 7.30pm Local / 10.30pm AEDT
Broadcast: Live on 10 Bold and 10 Play

Trevor Morgan's men reached the decider following their impressive 2-0 Semi-Final win over Japan U20 on Wednesday evening, while playing a scintillating brand of football throughout the tournament.

Never before has this age group won the competition. The team's best finish was as runners-up in the 2010 iteration.

Australia U20 topped Group A with nine points after defeating Kyrgyz Republic 5-1, Qatar 3-1 and hosts China PR 2-1.

In the Quarter Final, the Aussies twice came from behind to overcome Iraq 3-2 and qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup™ for the first time since 2013, with that event taking place in Chile later this year in September.

Gritty 1-1 draw after extra time.

Then showed nerves of steel to win the shootout 5-4. Great save by Hall of the Saudi final penalty.

Congrats Young Strayans 🇦🇺 and all the Adelaide contigent in the Squad!

The goal that Hall let in. He had no idea where the goal line was. Pity no goal line technology available.

This is a perfect example of young SA players who have been provided with opportunities at the NPL and A-league levels, rising to more outstanding achievements.

Congratulations to all and to those who have developed them along the way, including coaches and origin clubs!
