Re: Greatest Ever SAASL player ever - Voting System
It would be a very difficult exercise as you are only going on people's opinions, not like we have any video footage of the players from the early years. Having been involved since the very early 70's, I can tell you all the players were a lot older then, as compared to now,had a lot of experience ...

Re: Greatest Ever SAASL player ever - Voting System
Yeah, that's another problem... some great players made their name elsewhere, and finished their careers in SAASL. Would they still be eligible? What would the criteria be?Porky wrote:I remember playing against Milan Ivanovic when he was at Fulham...he'd be in there for sure

Re: Greatest Ever SAASL player ever - Voting System
Great Idea however I believe it would be better to nominate a the Best SAASL Team Ever. To nominate the Best Player Ever would be way too difficult. I agree.... too hard to pick just one Greatest Player. Be impossible to rate the players of 40 yrs ago against today's players-whom more would have ...

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. What confusion? I doubt elizabeth vale will turn up to play afl, or gaza will turn up instead. Everybody putting up reasons and when they're shot down. Why bother? Should just say that from the start.    such a big ...

Re: FOOTBALL CLUB V SOCCER CLUB
Why is it that so few teams in the SAASL have as part of their name the title "FOOTBALL CLUB" in lieu of that horrible title "SOCCER CLUB"? It is about time that those constituted clubs made changes to their Constitution to be now known as a "FOOTBALL CLUB", and those without a constitution just ...

Re: FOOTBALL CLUB V SOCCER CLUB
Your right Porky, as long as there is AFL (football) played in this country, soccer will always be the bridesmaid. go to NSW or Q'land and ask them about football and see if they talk about aussie rules. That's why it's Barossa Pearl about aussie rules being football in this country. The majority ...

Re: Worst player to ever represent the Socceroos?
All this touchiness just goes to prove how this mildly talented player continues to be blindly worshipped. Once again we get blind prejudice rather than mature analysis from old redback... Kewell doesn't do too bad for a 33 year old who has probably lost 30% of the pace he had five years ago. He ...

Re: 1967-1974
I don't think it was really surprising that APAC did so well in SASF Third Division in 1972.... The top four or five SAASL clubs used to regularly beat Third Division SASF clubs in the Federation Cup around that time. For instance, in 1970, Elizabeth Vale beat Flinders Uni 5-2; Hectorville beat ...

Whilst their SAASL team never got higher than 3rd, 4th or 5th divs in SAASl, their first team was playing in federation 2nd div, 1980-87. In 1981 they finished fourth, ahead of the likes of Enfield Victoria, Modbury and USC Lion... and only just behind Adelaide City and West Adelaide reserves!

Re: Brighton City
Interesting.... seems like Brighton City folded up at the end of '87, then, and didn't return to SAASL. I played against them for Uni in '72, and remember scoring with a rare left footed shot, but we still lost 2-1. I saw them play a friendly against Mitcham in '76- the club they eventually ...

Brighton City
Someone asked me about Brighton City the other day, and I was trying to trace their history... I think they started in SAASL in 1971, and left about 1978 to join the federation when they amalgamated with federation club Mitcham. I have heard that they left SASF about 1988 and came back to SAASL ...

I thought the Olyroos played well and the score flattered Japan. Obviously there was a fitness problem as we slackened off the intensity after dominating early.

Any idea what venue will be used as the home ground this time around? in 2007 we played all our home games at hindmarsh. From memory, those games weren't televised. I went to a couple- the Olyroos played well to beat Saudi Arabia and Iran at Hindmarsh... so it was disapointing when they flopped in ...
