Re: State League 2025
Good commentary. I agree. 8 teams of decent quality. Very competitive. If they've recruited and or developed players then it will be a very close comp. The prize on offer is a spot in the WNPL.

Re: 2025 Season
Throwing money after a problem is like drip feeding those on welfare. You will not strengthen the club. All you will encourage is cheque book (or bank transfer) recruiting. That will only build a weaker competition. The problems remains with the clubs. Get the right people in the positions (or ...

Re: 2025 Season
Hi Tots 5-10 years from now has been the catchy of the defunct SAWSA followed by the FS and now the FFSA. They failed to capitalise on zero AFL women's and they and other interstate counterparts did little. Then again with soccer way down the pecking order for OZ sport they had their work cut out ...

Re: 2025 Season
Baggio good analysis and comments. There are many angles to this debate. One thing rises above all others; how committed are the clubs to the women's program? And I mean the senior. Juniors are ok. Little outlay and revenue ticks over nicely. Once we get to the seniors and underage just below, that ...

Re: 2025 Season
Lots of good commentary. All have merit. The one I like relates to the two top teams and how they are building top down. Agreed. Build it and they will come good quote). A strong peering WNPL will attract players, good coaches, sponsors, etc. The ones focusing predominantly on building their bases ...

Re: 2025 Season
Thank you to everyone for their respectful replies and differing perspectives. Many valid points. We can all agree to disagree because what we have all been discussing will continue to happen. There are very good clubs stuck in mid to lower table that are running on the goodwill of many people ...

Re: 2025 Season
It's irrelevant to an extent about the un 16s and 17s.....good clubs will always look to recruit the best available talent. At that may come from outside. There is always the perennial group "what chance has home-grown player got if they keep bring ing in players from outside?" The answer is simple ...

Re: 2025 Season
Seems as if my well considered response is not well received. Thanks for the reply. Appreciated. I have no skin in the game at all. Just 25 plus years of supporting someone in the game. Players in the women's game are (or used to) transient and will move for many reasons. A reserves player at a top ...

Re: 2025 Season
Playing in Reserves for a top team is always beneficial. The pressure for the seniors with a strong reserves will generally deliver good results. Playing in the first team in a low ranked club is abysmal and would only deter a player from continuing. I applaude quite strongly any player that ...

Re: Matildas thumped 3-0
Thanks for putting up the link. I';ve read comments online in the Adelaide website and basically the people commenting have basically said things that are both incorrect (why let the truth get in the way) and disgusting about the Matildas. Is it because of envy? Protecting their patch? or both? For ...

Re: Croydon
Interesting question. Personally, the big scores against Croydon are a farce. I can tell you that from one team's perspective, they se no glory in playing and winning by a large margin. The team know they have a job to do and play against an opponent however, from a player's perspective, there is ...

Re: Adelaide Utd 2023-24 a nightmare season
WNPl Hub. Can't argue with your reply. You have asked questions and made some valid replies. Strong reputations as a recruiting tool hasn't achieved the results the last 3 years. What I take from your reply is that you can't operate within a professional (Utd) and an amateur (wnpl) framework. Pay ...

Re: Adelaide Utd 2023-24 a nightmare season
The stats are undeniably bad. As far as for the reasons we've analysed and commented on this over almost a decade. Still the results are not improving. Over the last decade and more we've gone from the former NSL to the W League to A League Women. The NSL era yielded good results and from what I ...

Re: Adelaide Utd 2022-23 a season to forget
You've asked good questions and comments. Most will lay the blame at the feet of the coach. Facts are that the step up from WNPL to A-League is (from what's been told to me) is quite significant. Question is whether we have the level of WNPL competition here in SA that is equivalent to the ...

Re: preseason cup finals
Common sense. I've been a follower of the local soccer scene for a couple of decades and I really see a game cancelled. Wet weather an unplayable pitch? Cancelled. Hot weather. Rarely. A decade or so it used to be the wet bulb test the federation hung on to in order to justify that a game could ...

As they say in the classics, believe nothing you hear (or read) and half what you see, Tony S is a very proud sponsor. Saying that, anyone who appoints Tony as a coach is a very lucky club.

Re: Coaches goings and goings for Season 2024
Well said Michael. Having been around the women's soccer/football scene for over 2 decades I have seen good people, coaches, managers, volunteers, leave and many never returning. Many reasons. However, the sport needs good hard working people. It's not for the pay the coaches do the job. It's for ...

Women's A League and Payment
Good article about Emily and her injury battle. I wish her a full recovery. A very good player and person. Good to read the appalling pay the female players had been receiving from their time at AUFC and possibly at other A League women's clubs. $60 per game? Average time commitment about 12 hours ...

Very interesting question. Sometimes awards are given as "encouragement" for a job well done in the circumstances. I'm only being serious.
Anyway, there are a few interesting results albeit worthy recipients.

I agree with the comment that to win a league title as did Comets requires far more than the Championship. Both have merit however, a league title is the culmination of a whole year where many factors come in to play.

I'm happy to be reading that there are some models for player payment. That's a good thing. There needs to be a value placed on the product. It deserves recognition and player payment is a positive.

Lots of discussion on here and about the weather, gate takings, growth n the game etc. The discussion was to be about the de-centralisation of the wnpl ie from centralisation we had at the Parks for many years to the de-centralised model at State Park. Does not look like it will get back to that ...

Good discussion. I'm not a player however, up to recent times the two clubs I had crossed paths with did charge some of its preens a club fee. Whether it was the full or discounted amount would probably be up for negotiation. From what I have seen/heard players were encouraged to get personal ...

WNPL and State sports Park
With the move to Gepps Cross, away from the Parks, will we now be seeing only 2 WNPL games on a Friday night? At the Parks we had 2 games at 6.15 and 2 at 8.15 or thereabouts. Looks like we only see 2 games at Gepps cross 6.15 and 8.15 and both on the artificial pitch. The main pitch isn't being ...
