SAASL Awards

Assuming the presentation night has been held, where can I see a summary of the SAASL award winners for the respective divs for season 2024?

Re: 2024 season

Congratulations - but it's taken until 2024 for this to occur. Let's see what happens next year before we start any serious thoughts of a shift in the balance of power.

Re: 2024 season

Well, if the southern teams lifted their game a bit, they might get some more games scheduled down there. However, when the vast majority of teams competing on such a show case day are from the north or metro, it doesn't seem like an ideal choice of venue - certainly will only attract the competing ...

The SAASL brainstrust might have to convene to review their guidelines on who is eligible to play in next season's traditional pipe opener, the Chickenman Cup!

Re: 2024 season

Adelaide Eagles & Ghan clearly the most talented teams in Div2 - they are both capable of mixing it with the big boys in the Premier division. I suspect any of PHU or WB's challenge next year (if promoted) would just be to avoid relegation. WB couldn't meet that challenge in recent times; Unley are ...

Re: 2024 season

At the half-way point Eagles & Ghan clearly the standouts of Sun Div2. Their skill and speed well ahead of the rest. Barring any major on/off field incidents blowing up (surely not??#!!), I suspect these two will pull away from the pack as the season goes on. They have the ability to well & truly ...

Agree, that would be the logical action to take - but we are talking the Amateur Leage, and we are less than 2 weeks away from KO. Experience shows that things don't happen that quickly.

Re: Silly Season

What happened in the Cichinowski final? Downs putting 7 past Jets (I don't Jest!) - after being thrashed themselves earlier in the week by Ghan?
Unfortunate if any truth in Unley rumour. A bit late for League to start rearranging fixtures now - looks like a 9 team Premier div?

Re: Promotion / Relegation 2024

Sun Premier - My money's on Gardens & Unley to go down. Farm's home ground advantage to help them wriggle out of trouble.
Div 2 - West Beach also in the mix, but each of the promotion candidates would struggle to stay up unless squads strengthened.

Ingle Farm will be sweating if Raptors happen to scrounge a point at Gully this week - Farm have to play Ghan & Gardens, with Raptors playing Inter last game.

Sat Premier div relegation interesting. BOSA currently fourth, but only 2 points above the drop zone. Will be plenty of cut throat matches over the run in.

Re: Challenge Cup

Maybe, but if both comps are meant to be a true Cup, then they should have independent draws...…...not that the SAASL is necessarily one for following the mob - we were probably the last comp in the world to adopt 3 points for a win.

Re: Challenge Cup

Cup draws out of a hat?
Coincidence that 3 matches in Challenge Cup and Reserve Cup have the same pairings. Maybe convenient - and gives the home teams a bit of extra turnover at the bar, but not a true cup draw.

Re: Season 2020

Subject to not having a second wave, whatever happens this season will certainly be treated as a one-off. To maintain reasonable fairness, I suggest initial prelim phase over 9 rounds i.e. play each other once. In Premier leagues, top four then play off to decide the year's champion. Bottom two and ...

I suspect there would not be too many o/35 teams that remained 100% squeaky clean Re: the full letter of the law on player eligibility. Farm could draw both games and remain undefeated - but be runners up if Downs win final two matches.
Will make for an interesting cup tie if they get to meet each other.
